Qualifier Entry Info Updated

The 2023 Show Season page has been updated with links to the remaining shows of the year. The pricing for Early Bird, Regular and Late entries are listed along with the due dates for all 3 shows. Judges are also listed on those pages and as arena sizes are confirmed that information will be added as well.

I’m still working on updates to the actual form based on the feedback from the February show and will have that published for the June Qualifier in the next week or so.

February Stall & RV Chart

Thank you all for your patience as we worked through the Stall and RV assignment process. We wanted to make sure it was published correctly the first time and not have to make changes. Below is the Stall and RV chart for this weekend’s show.

We appreciate all the teams that shifted spots or went off-grid to make sure we got everyone settled in.

Looking forward to a great weekend. Safe travels and we’ll see you on Friday.

February Order of Go

We are excited to publish the Order of Go for our first qualifier of the 2023 season! The show will take place at Triple J Ranch in Sarasota. We’d love for you to come out and cheer on the teams. We have 8 teams participating with us, 2 of which are new to SSMDTA.

Check out all that’s new

We’ve been putting a lot of work and updates into the website lately. More information about the 2023 show year are being updated as they are available. Check out our 2023 Show Information page which has links to the Compulsory, Short Program and Membership Form.

We’ve also started a Glossary of Moves. The Short Program moves are already uploaded and we’ll be adding the moves from Compulsory next.

Keep checking back for more updates!

2023 Compulsory and Short Program Update

Hey Teams!

Just wanted to give a quick update on the 2023 Compulsory and Short Program for those teams that are starting to think about next season.

As you recall, we handed out a written and drawn version of the Compulsory at the State Championship show. A few mistakes have been found on both the drawings and the write-up and we are working to get those corrected and published as quickly as possible. (Hopefully this week)

We are finding these issues as we start riding it, but please reach out to us as you start riding it for any clarifications or to see if something that rides well as 4, looks great on paper with 6, may turn to muck with 10. Let us know of any issues you’re having and we’ll see how to get them addressed and resolved for you.

One thing we’re going to add to the website to help teams is a Glossary section that lists moves with a description and an arrow drawing. We will start with the Short Program and Compulsory moves from this year and will keep adding from there. This will help new teams with moves and hopefully standardize some move names.

2023 Short Program Moves

We are excited to announce the 6 moves that need to be incorporated into a 3-5 minute drill for the 2023 Short Program.

  • Single File Cross
  • Circle – Four Leaf Clover – Box
  • Holy Cross / Swap Pairs
  • Bubble
  • Suicide Merge
  • Swing Your Partner

Ok, stop looking so scared … they’re just move names. LOL See below for images and more details will be put in the Glossary.

Bubble – Column of pairs split and each side creates half a circle, then feed back into single file on far side of the circle.
Suicide Merge – riders come towards each other from across the arena as if they were going to do a suicide cross through, but when they reach each other, they turn into a single file column instead.
Swing Your Partner – Riders approach left to left in columns, when you reach your partner, riders turn left and perform a small circle. This is not a do-si-do – think more like a 10′ circle. Once riders are back in their original positions, they continue out in their single file lines.

We are excited that 7 teams are attending this year’s show and there are 40 drills being performed across 12 classes! Our 3 judges, Heidi Young, Aly Schortinghouse and Mark Plowman, have their work cut out for them as these teams have been preparing all year for this event.

The show will be held at the Alachua County Agriculture and Equestrian Center in Newberry, FL. Spectators are encouraged to come and cheer on the teams as they perform in full costumes and music. There is no admission charge.
